Christine Carson Age- 39 Pounds lost- 105 Has kept it off- 2 years Christine Carson Before Breaking point: In October 2004, Christine decided to break the cycle of weight loss and regain, and to change her lifestyle once and for all. “I was tired of being tired,” says Carson, “I wanted to be healthy. And this is a choice I made for me- not a husband, boyfriend, family member, etc… but for ME.”
Key strategies: She joined a formal weight management program and began Jazzercising. “The commercial weight loss program taught me how to make better food choices and to eat in moderation,” Carson states. “I also came to realize that food is the way to fuel my body, not my emotions. If hunger is not my problem, then food is not the answer!” Christine Carson Before Biggest surprise: Christine now enjoys exercise. “Who knew? I love the way it makes me feel,” she insists. “I miss it when I’m away from it- my body craves it. Not just the physical benefits from it, but the mental as well.” A typical day includes 30 minutes on the treadmill before work, and a 60-minute Jazzercise class in the evening. “It’s a great way to dance and workout all at once!”
Helpful hints: “There’s no magic pill. If there were, none of us would be overweight,” Carson asserts. “The keys are better choices of food, portion control, and exercise. It isn’t temporary- it’s a lifestyle!” Christine continues to track her food intake daily. “It’s so easy to forget those little bites and tastes here and there. Those little nibbles add up!” She also continues to make exercise a priority, not an option. “For me, exercise is like brushing my teeth- there’s no question about whether or not I’m going to do it each day.”
Christine Carson After Reaping the rewards: “My doctor took me off of high blood pressure medication. I don’t get winded climbing stairs. I can cross my legs. When I bend over, I don’t think to myself, ‘What else can I do while I’m down here?’ I could go on and on,” Carson says. “I’m still single. I’m still approaching 40. But I’m energetic and healthy and getting more so every day.”
