Age- 31 Buddy system: In October 2002, Danielle noticed a postcard at a friend’s house advertising a membership special at a local women’s health club. The special rate was only available if 2 friends signed up, so they decided to join together. “That day changed my life,” Wooten says. “I never dreamed at that moment that I would stick to my workouts, much less lose 160 lbs. In the beginning, my motivation was knowing that my friend was meeting me and not wanting to disappoint her.” ![]() Danielle Wooten Before ![]() Danielle Wooten Before Critical move: Around the same time, Wooten moved out of her family home and into her own place. “This made it much easier for me to control what food I had around the house,” she explains. “I started changing my eating habits by cutting back on portion sizes and staying away from second helpings. I drank more water and low-calorie drinks. I increased my fiber and protein intake, decreased my sweets/sugar intake, and avoided snacking… If you don’t have it lying around the house, you can’t eat it! I began increasing my vegetable and fruit intake, decreasing my fried food/fat intake, and eating more grilled chicken, pork, and seafood.” ![]() Danielle Wooten After Words of wisdom: “Anyone who tells you losing weight is easy either hasn’t tried losing weight or isn’t doing it in a healthy manner,” Wooten asserts. “It is not something anyone can just do for a short time and expect it to last. It is a lifestyle change. You have to be consistent with it.” ![]() Danielle Wooten After The payoff: “All my life I have struggled with fitting into and buying clothes. One of my happiest moments so far has been being able to shop for clothes in a regular store as opposed to a specialty store for larger women.” |
